SN Freddie John Falgout was assigned to the USS AUGUSTA (CA-31) during the war between China and Japan in 1937. He was Killed In Action in Shanghai, China when a Japanese anti-aircraft shell landed on the deck of the AUGUSTA wounding 18 and killing SN Falgout. He is considered by historians as the first American casualty in what would become World War II.

Persian Gulf Veteran Jeffrey Curtis Sibley

LT Howard W. Seeschaf was a veteran of World War II as a Navy pilot. On April 8, 1950 he was the pilot of a U.S. Navy PB4Y-1P Privateer BuNO 59645 on a training mission from Wiesbaden, Germany to Denmark. His aircraft was shot down by Soviet Lavochkin LA-11 fighters over the Baltic Sea off the coast of Liepaja, Latvia.

There are varied accounts of the results of the shootdown. Some reports say the aircraft exploded in mid-air with no survivors. There are other reports that the crew was captured and held in Soviet gulags until their death.

LT Seeschaf has a memorial at Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans, LA.

Persian Gulf Veteran Jeffrey Curtis Sibley

SMSA Jeffrey Sibley is a 1983 graduate of Grace King High School in Metairie, LA. He was deployed to the Persian Gulf in 1987 on board the USS STARK. On May 17, 1987, the STARK was attacked and struck by 2 Iraqi Exocet missiles, killing 37 American sailors. Jeffrey was one of those 37 that sacrificed their lives for the country he loved.


SMSA Sibley is interred in the Lake Lawn All Saints Mausoleum in New Orleans, LA.

SGT 1st Class Steven Cutno graduated from Marion Abramson Senior High School in New Orleans, LA and enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 14, 1986.


On January 6, 2006 SFC Cutno was in the middle of physical training with his unit when he collapsed. He was taken to the Fort Bragg base hospital where he was pronounced dead.


SFC Cutno was a veteran of the Gulf War and a well respected member of the 82nd Airborne Division, where he spent most of his 15 years of active duty. His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Kuwait Liberation Medal, and multiple other campaign awards.


SFC Cutno was 38 years of age at the time of his death and he is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in New Orleans, LA.

PFC Herbert Washington enlisted in the U.S. Army out of New Orleans, LA on April 10, 1951. He was a member of the HQ & SVC CO, 25th Armored INF BN. He died a Non Battle Death on November 23, 1959 in Springfield, MO from a pulmonary edema.


PFC Washington was 28 years of age at the time of his death and he is buried in Holt Cemetery in New Orleans, LA.


The headstone for PFC Washington was delivered to Holt Cemetery and placed in the cemetery with no coordination from his family or the cemetery, so it is not known where in the cemetery he is buried. In 1980, the Mayor of New Orleans formed a committee to deal with the 100's of headstones stacked in the cemetery. His headstone was 1 of 417 that were removed from the cemetery by the VA in 1980 and replaced with a monument that lists their names.
